Let’s take a look at each of the March 2nd Grade Morning Bins in action!
Morning Bin #1: Vocabulary
Students will read the vocabulary words, sort them into groups, and explain why they sorted them the way they did.
Morning Bin #2: Word Use
Students will match the root word to the prefix word and suffix word.
Morning Bin #3: Phonemic Awareness & Phonics
Students will listen for the sounds in the word and sort to /ear/ or /air/ on the mat.
Morning Bin #4: Writing Conventions
Students will find the letters that must be capitalized and check the reason(s).
Morning Bin #5: Spelling Conventions
Students will read and find the r-controlled vowel words in the word search.
Morning Bin #6: Text
Students will read the paragraph and match the main idea of the paragraph.
Morning Bin #7: Sentences & Paragraphs
Students will read the parts of the story and put them in order.
Morning Bin #8: Parts of Speech
Students will match the verb with its irregular past tense form to make a picture.
Morning Bin #9: Writing
Students will read the sentence starter and complete the sentence according to the conjunction word.
Morning Bin #10: Logic & Critical Thinking
Students will read the clues to match the snack with the correct person.
Morning Bin #11: Add & Subtract
Students will pick 2 cards and add or subtract, regrouping within 1,000.
Morning Bin #12: Fluency
Partners will take turns adding or subtracting within 20. The first player to get 5 in a row wins!
Morning Bin #13: Multiplication Foundations
Students will read the card, make an array to match and write a multiplication expression.
Morning Bin #14: Place Value
Students will read the place value clues and write the number. Then they will check their work.
Morning Bin #15: Counting & Skip Counting within 1000
Students skip count by 5’s to make a path from start to finish.
Morning Bin #16: Measurement & Estimation
Students will look at the item and pick the best unit of measurement that completes the sentence.
Morning Bin #17: Time & Money
Students will read the word problem, write the value of money and decide if they can buy the item.
Morning Bin #18: Data & Graphing
Students will count and use the key record the data on the pie chart.
Morning Bin #19: Shapes & Fractions
Students will complete the symmetrical shape using a geo board and rubber bands.
Morning Bin #20: Critical Thinking
Students will read the pizza order and find the fraction pizza that matches.
Morning Bin #21: Social & Emotional
Students will read the sentence and think of a question they could ask the friend.
